We've poured our heart and soul into Pickleland.
Here's the story of how it all started.
Pickleland's
History
0-0-2: love at first drive
- Ale (short for Alejandro) discovers pickleball during a happy hour social event and immediately falls in love with it.
- The next day he signs up for a league with his roommate.
- In a matter of weeks, he’s playing every day, and has made a Google Sheet with all the options and times available around Austin.
Frustrations lead to opportunity
- Frustrated with waiting 25-30 min between games, bad matchups and the limited indoor options, Ale sets out to investigate whether an indoor pickleball facility could be feasible.
- He interviews over 130 people at open play asking them what they liked and what they wanted to see in a potential new facility.
- There is strong interest from players to play indoors with curated open play.
Ale meets Jeff at open play
- Jeff becomes the MOST excited person when hearing about a facility opening in Pflugerville.
- They exchange numbers and Jeff texts Ale over the next few days 5-10x times per day with ideas and suggestions
- Ale realizes that Jeff would be a great addition to the team given Jeff’s deep knowledge and crazy love of pickleball.
- Pickleland grows to 2 people.
Creating the best facility
- The duo travels around the US to study the best pickleball facilities and learn from the top operators and best players.
- They source the best lights from Ohio, the best court materials and court builder from Texas, and many other materials and ideas from their different visits.
Lease signed and build out
- During the build out, we asked over 3000+ Austin players for their continuous feedback through our Slack channel.
- Players voted on amenities, court colors, open play formats and more!
Pickleland opens Aug 2024
- After a few permit delays, we opened our doors to the public on August 23, 2024.
- Our awesome volunteers help us get set up prior to opening.
- The support from the community is humbling 🥰
Voted "Best Pickleball Club" in Austin
- In December 2024, after only 4 short months of opening, we were voted “Best Pickleball Club” in Austin by Austin Pickleball Update and 750+ players.
- Players have been loving our friendly community, beautiful courts, and awesome events.
- We continue with our customer-centric focus and iteration to get better every day.
Where to from here?
This is just the beginning of the Pickleland story.
Our goal is to create an awesome 1st facility blueprint and build more Picklelands throughout the US.
We believe that our customer-centric focus, deep love for the sport and ability to iterate based on your feedback will help us create a facility that people love and keep coming back to.
