Rosewood Neighborhood Park
Rosewood Neighborhood Park, commonly known as Rosewood, is a charming pickleball destination in East Austin, located at 2300 Rosewood Avenue. Unlike the bustling Pan American Park, Rosewood offers a more relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a quieter place to play pickleball.
Court Setup
Rosewood Park features four pickleball courts:
- Permanent Nets: Two courts are equipped with permanent nets.
- Pop-Up Nets: Two additional courts require pop-up nets, although these spaces often have nets left in place, allowing players to use them without bringing their own.
The court surfaces at Rosewood are excellent, with clear lines and markings, ensuring a smooth playing experience.
Playing at Rosewood Park
Playing pickleball at Rosewood is simple and convenient. Here’s what you need to know:
Kings/Competitive Style Courts
All four courts at Rosewood operate on a Kings/competitive style system:
- Winners Stay On: The winners of each match remain on the court to face the next challengers.
- Losers Cycle Off: The losing players step off to allow the next set of players to compete.
This system is only active when the courts are busy. During quieter times, you can enjoy longer games with friends without needing to rotate off the court.
No Paddle Queue System
Unlike Pan Am Park, Rosewood does not have a physical paddle line/queue system. The etiquette here is similar to South Austin Rec Center (SARC), where you stack two paddles by the net post to signal your intent to challenge the winners.
If there isn’t a queue yet, simply ask the players on the court if you can play Kings style, and they will usually agree. This system applies to all four courts, with the two permanent courts at the back often hosting higher-skilled players, though this can vary.
Accessibility and Amenities
Rosewood Park is open seven days a week and is dedicated solely to pickleball, meaning there are no conflicting sports leagues using the courts. The courts are lighted until 10pm, with lights activated via a button near the entrance gate, ensuring you can play even after dark.
Why Choose Rosewood Park?
