The best lightweight pickleball paddle is the one that feels light when you swing it, and that is a different number from the one on the scale. Static weight is what the paddle weighs. Swing weight is how heavy it feels in motion, and it depends on where the weight sits. Of the paddles we stock, the Avoura Rivelle and SLK ERA Power Widebody have the lowest published swing weight at 109, and the SLK Halo Power has the lightest listed weight range at 7.7 to 8.0 ounces.

One thing to be straight about first. Our paddle weight guide puts the lightweight band at roughly 6.0 to 7.3 ounces. No paddle on our wall is listed that low; the lightest start at 7.7 ounces, which is the lighter half of midweight. So this list ranks the lightest-playing paddles we carry by published numbers, and adds one paddle we do not stock whose listed range does reach the lightweight band.

Static weight vs swing weight

Look at two rows in that chart. The SLK Dauntless Elongated is listed from 7.7 ounces, the lowest starting weight we stock, and has a published swing weight of 118. The SLK ERA Power Widebody is listed from 8.0 ounces, heavier on a scale, and has a published swing weight of 109. Selkirk publishes both numbers for both paddles.

The paddle that weighs more swings nine points lighter. The reason is where the mass sits. Weight near the tip counts for far more in the swing than weight near your hand, so a long, narrow paddle carries its mass further out and feels heavier in motion than a shorter, wider one of similar weight. In Selkirk’s published specs, the elongated version of the OMNI, the Boomstik and the ERA Power each comes in at 118, while the widebody versions are 112, 112 and 109.

If you are shopping for a light paddle because you want quicker hands at the kitchen line, swing weight is the number to shop on. If you want less total load on your arm over a long session, static weight matters too. Ideally you want both low.

Three practical notes:

  • Listed weight is a range. Selkirk, Avoura and Slapp Life publish a spread of 0.2 to 0.5 ounces for one model, and the paddle you pick up can sit anywhere in it.
  • Thinner cores weigh less. JOOLA lists the 14mm version of each Pro V shape 0.2 ounces lighter than the 16mm: 7.9 against 8.1 ounces for the Perseus, Hyperion and Kosmos. Our 13mm vs 16mm guide covers what else changes.
  • Not every maker publishes swing weight. JOOLA and Slapp Life do not in our data. You can measure it at home with the pendulum method in our swing weight calculator.

The picks

1. Avoura Rivelle: the lightest swing we stock

Avoura publishes the Rivelle at a swing weight of 109, tied for the lowest of any paddle we stock, with a listed weight of 7.8 to 8.2 ounces. It is a hybrid shape at 16.25 by 7.75 inches with a 5.5 inch handle, so you keep most of an elongated paddle’s length. The cost is a published twist weight of 6.09, which is on the low side, so it is quick but less forgiving off-centre than a widebody.

2. SLK ERA Power Widebody: light swing, stable face

The other 109. The ERA Power Widebody is listed at 8.0 to 8.3 ounces, the heaviest scale weight on this list, and still ties for the lowest published swing weight. Its twist weight is 7.3, more than a point above the Rivelle, because the face is 8 inches wide. This is the pick if you want fast hands without losing stability and you do not mind the extra weight in your hand.

3. SLK Valkyrie Widebody: low on both numbers

The Valkyrie Widebody 16mm is the most balanced answer here: a listed weight of 7.9 to 8.1 ounces and a published swing weight of 110, one point off the lowest. It has a fiberglass face over a 16mm polypropylene honeycomb core, a 15.95 by 8 inch outline and a twist weight of 7.0.

4. SLK Halo Power: the lightest listed range

Selkirk lists the Halo Power in Max shape at 7.7 to 8.0 ounces. No ranged listing on our wall starts lower or tops out lower. It is 16 by 7.85 inches with a 4.85 inch handle, the shortest handle we stock, a 16mm polymer honeycomb core and a carbon fiber face. Selkirk does not publish a swing weight for it in our data, so this pick rests on static weight alone. The short handle suits one-handed players more than two-handers.

JOOLA lists the Perseus Pro V 14mm at 7.9 ounces, 0.2 ounces under the 16mm. It is an elongated paddle at 16.5 by 7.5 inches with a 5.5 inch handle. JOOLA does not publish swing weight, and elongated shapes generally swing heavier than their scale weight suggests, so treat this as the lighter option within the Perseus line and not as a light-swinging paddle.

6. SLK Dauntless Elongated: light on the scale, not in the swing

The Dauntless Elongated 16mm is listed from 7.7 ounces, level with the Halo Power for the lowest starting weight we stock, up to 8.1. Its published swing weight is 118. It belongs on this list for players whose goal is lower total weight with full elongated reach and a 5.8 inch handle. It does not belong on your list if hand speed is the goal.

7. Onix Z7: a listing that reaches the lightweight band

We do not stock it, but the Onix Z7 is the one paddle here whose published range dips under 7.3 ounces. Onix lists it at 7.2 to 7.8 ounces, 15.75 inches long with a 7.875 inch face and a 5 inch handle, with a graphite face over a 10mm polypropylene core, and states that it is USA Pickleball approved (Onix product page). Onix notes its measurements and weights are approximate and does not publish a swing weight.

Who should go lighter

Our weight guide’s advice holds: go lighter if you play mostly doubles at the kitchen line, rely on the soft game and quick hands, have arm or elbow issues, or come from table tennis or badminton. If you are not sure, the middle of the range is the safer default.

Two more things worth knowing before you buy light.

You can add weight, you cannot remove it. A paddle that is a little too light is fixable with a few grams of lead tape, and where you put it decides what changes. The swing weight calculator works out the effect of a strip before you stick it on, and our lead tape guide has the placement chart.

Compare the two numbers together. The paddle comparison tool puts the Rivelle next to the Dauntless Elongated: nearly the same listed weight, nine points apart in swing weight. Each maker measures on its own equipment, so read small gaps between brands loosely.

Then swing one. A demo paddle for a full session tells you more than the spec sheet, because fatigue shows up in the second hour.

FAQ

What is considered a lightweight pickleball paddle?

There is no official standard. By the common convention in our weight guide, lightweight is roughly 6.0 to 7.3 ounces, midweight roughly 7.3 to 8.3, and heavyweight above that. USA Pickleball sets no weight limit at all: Rule 3.D.3 of the 2026 rulebook says there is no restriction on paddle weight (USA Pickleball rulebook, PDF).

Is swing weight more important than paddle weight?

For hand speed, yes. Swing weight describes how the paddle feels in motion, and two paddles with the same scale weight can swing very differently. For total load on your arm, static weight still counts.

What is a low swing weight for a pickleball paddle?

Among the paddles we stock with a published figure, swing weights run from 109 to 121. The paddles at 109 to 112 are the quick end of that range, and most of them are widebody or hybrid shapes.

Are lightweight paddles better for tennis elbow?

A lighter paddle is one thing worth trying, alongside a correctly sized grip. Weight is only one factor among several, including technique and how much you play. See our guide to paddle grip size for the other half.

Do lighter paddles have less power?

Generally yes. More mass puts more energy into the ball for the same swing, so a lighter paddle asks you to supply more of the pace yourself. That is the trade for faster hands and easier touch.
