On paper, the JOOLA Pro V changes how the paddle is built, not how big it is. The Perseus, Scorpeus and Hyperion keep the same published length, width and handle length from Pro IV to Pro V. What JOOLA’s spec sheets change is the core description, the frame and edge construction, and a few weights and grip sizes.
We don’t lab-test paddles, so this comparison uses only what JOOLA publishes, checked on October 9, 2026. JOOLA doesn’t publish swing weight or twist weight for either generation, so those aren’t here.

What changed in the construction
The core description
The Pro IV spec sheets list the core as “PP core + EVA foam wall”. The Pro V sheets list “PP core + CF + EVA foam”. The addition is the “CF”. JOOLA uses the Propulsion Core name on pages from both generations, and on the Perseus Pro V page it says the core adds controlled flex to the paddle’s interior.
Both are polypropylene cores. Neither generation is a full-foam paddle. Our core materials guide explains why that distinction matters.
The frame and edge
This is the biggest change in wording.
Pro IV: TechFlex Power. JOOLA says TFP places foam outside the paddle frame but under the edge guard, working with the honeycomb core to expand the sweet spot and add a poppier feel on drives. It calls TFP the signature technology of the Pro IV generation. It also says a foam application at the throat optimizes weight distribution and increases twist weight, without giving a figure.
Pro V: KineticFrame and Hyperfoam Edge Wall. JOOLA describes KineticFrame as a slimmer frame at the throat that flexes to store momentum on contact. The Hyperfoam Edge Wall is a foam injection that JOOLA says adds stability around the edges and enlarges the sweet spot.
So both generations put foam at the perimeter, under different names. The new idea in the Pro V is the throat that is designed to flex.
The certification wording
Pro IV pages describe the paddles as “UPA-A pro certified and USAP PBCoR .43 certified”. The Pro V spec sheets simply list UPA-A certified and USAP certified. Both generations are listed as certified by both bodies. The Pro V sheets just don’t spell out the PBCoR figure, so don’t read a rule difference into the shorter line.
If you play sanctioned tournaments, confirm your exact paddle on the approved list. Our guide to checking whether a paddle is legal shows how.
Perseus Pro IV vs. Perseus Pro V
We carry the Perseus Pro IV in 14mm, so that’s the pair we can compare.
| 14mm | Perseus Pro IV | Perseus Pro V |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | 7.9 oz | 7.9 oz |
| Length × width | 16.5 × 7.5 in | 16.5 × 7.5 in |
| Handle | 5.5 in | 5.5 in |
| Grip circumference | 4.125 in | 4.25 in |
Source: JOOLA spec sheets. The Perseus Pro V 14mm is the Ben Johns edition.
The weight, dimensions and handle are identical. The one number that differs is the grip, an eighth of an inch thicker on the Pro V 14mm. That tracks the edition more than the generation: JOOLA lists 4.25 inches on its Ben Johns Perseus Pro V builds and 4.125 inches on the 16mm Simone Jardim build. JOOLA notes grip circumference may vary slightly.
JOOLA calls the Perseus its most popular shape in both generations. See the two in the compare tool: Perseus Pro IV 14mm vs. Perseus Pro V 14mm. For what independent testers found when they hit both generations, read our Perseus Pro V review.
Scorpeus Pro IV vs. Scorpeus Pro V
The Scorpeus is the pair with the most published differences.
| Scorpeus Pro IV | Scorpeus Pro V | |
|---|---|---|
| Weight, 14mm | 7.9 oz | 8.0 oz |
| Weight, 16mm | 8.1 oz | 8.2 oz |
| Length × width | 16 × 8 in | 16 × 8 in |
| Handle | 5.25 in | 5.25 in |
| Grip, 14mm | 4.125 in | 4.125 in |
| Grip, 16mm | 4.25 in | 4.125 in |
| JOOLA shape class | Widebody | Standard |
Source: JOOLA spec sheets for each thickness.
Three things moved. The Pro V is listed 0.1 oz heavier at both thicknesses. The 16mm grip is listed slimmer on the Pro V, at 4.125 inches against 4.25. And JOOLA’s label for the shape changed from Widebody to Standard, while the published dimensions stayed at 16 × 8 inches. The label changed. The footprint didn’t.
JOOLA describes the Scorpeus the same way across both generations: its widest, most forgiving shape, aimed at control, stability and doubles.
Compare them: Scorpeus 14mm, Pro IV vs. Pro V and Scorpeus 16mm, Pro IV vs. Pro V.
Hyperion Pro IV vs. Hyperion Pro V
The Hyperion is the pair with the fewest.
| Hyperion Pro IV | Hyperion Pro V | |
|---|---|---|
| Weight, 14mm | 7.9 oz | 7.9 oz |
| Weight, 16mm | 8.1 oz | 8.1 oz |
| Length × width | 16.5 × 7.5 in | 16.5 × 7.5 in |
| Handle | 5.5 in | 5.5 in |
| Grip, 14mm | 4.125 in | 4.125 in |
| Grip, 16mm | 4.25 in | 4.25 in |
Source: JOOLA spec sheets for each thickness.
Every published number matches: weight, length, width, handle and grip, at both thicknesses. If you own a Hyperion Pro IV, the Pro V is listed with the same measurements. The difference between them is entirely in the construction described above.
JOOLA describes the Hyperion in both generations as an elongated shape with an aerodynamic curved head.
Compare them: Hyperion 14mm, Pro IV vs. Pro V and Hyperion 16mm, Pro IV vs. Pro V.
What did not change
- Footprint. All three shapes keep their published length and width.
- Handle length. 5.5 inches on the Perseus and Hyperion, 5.25 inches on the Scorpeus, in both generations.
- Face. Listed as textured carbon fiber on both.
- Thickness options. 14mm and 16mm, with the 16mm listed 0.2 oz heavier in every pair we carry.
- Warranty. JOOLA lists 12 months, registration required, on the pages we checked for both generations.
That last point about thickness is worth a second look. Within a generation, going from 14mm to 16mm is a bigger change on paper than going from Pro IV to Pro V in the same thickness. If you’re choosing between two paddles, settle 14mm or 16mm first.
The shapes that only exist in one generation
Two paddles on our wall have no partner across the generations. The Kosmos is a Pro V paddle that JOOLA describes as a new hybrid shape. The Magnus we carry is a Pro IV. Both are covered in our guide to the JOOLA lineup.
Should you pick the Pro IV or the Pro V
A spec sheet can tell you what will feel familiar. It can’t tell you how the ball comes off the face.
Here is what the published specs do settle:
- If you already play a Pro IV, the same shape in Pro V has the same length, width and handle. On the Scorpeus it is listed 0.1 oz heavier.
- If grip size matters to you, check the exact thickness. The grip is the number most likely to differ between two paddles with the same name.
- If you want the flexing throat, that is a Pro V feature. If you want the construction JOOLA describes as poppier on drives, that is its language for the Pro IV’s TechFlex Power.
For how the two generations play, the fair test is to hit them back to back. Several are in the demo rack at the club. The paddle demo page explains how it works, and the paddle specs table lists every JOOLA we carry next to the other brands.
FAQ
Is the JOOLA Pro V the same size as the Pro IV?
Yes, for the three shapes that exist in both. The Perseus and Hyperion are listed at 16.5 × 7.5 inches with a 5.5 inch handle in both generations, and the Scorpeus at 16 × 8 inches with a 5.25 inch handle.
Is the Pro V heavier than the Pro IV?
Only the Scorpeus, per JOOLA’s spec sheets. It is listed at 8.0 oz (14mm) and 8.2 oz (16mm) in Pro V, against 7.9 oz and 8.1 oz in Pro IV. The Hyperion is listed at the same weight in both generations, and so is the 14mm Perseus.
What is the difference between TechFlex Power and KineticFrame?
They are different parts of the paddle. TechFlex Power, on the Pro IV, is foam placed outside the frame under the edge guard. KineticFrame, on the Pro V, is a slimmer throat that JOOLA says flexes on contact. The Pro V’s perimeter foam is called the Hyperfoam Edge Wall.
Does JOOLA publish swing weight for the Pro IV or Pro V?
No. Neither generation’s spec sheet lists swing weight or twist weight. You can measure a paddle yourself with our swing weight calculator.
Are both generations legal for tournaments?
JOOLA lists both as UPA-A certified and USAP certified. Rules and approved lists change, so check your exact model before an event.
