Pickleball players will turn anything into a theme night, and Halloween is the best one of the year. The catch is that most store-bought costumes are made for standing around at a party, not for chasing a dink at the kitchen line.
This guide sticks to costumes you can actually play in: pickle costumes, court puns only players will get, pro-player looks, team and couples ideas, and a few you can throw together in ten minutes. Each idea comes with an illustration of what it looks like.
Before You Pick: How to Play in a Costume
A costume that trips you or blocks your view will end your night early. A few ground rules:
- Keep your court shoes. Costume boots and slippers have no lateral support. Build the costume from the ankles up. Indoor courts also need non-marking soles.
- Nothing that blocks your eyes. Skip full masks and low hoods. If you wear eye protection, keep it on and work it into the look.
- Nothing that hangs near your feet. Capes, tails, long skirts and dangling props are trip hazards when you’re moving sideways.
- Keep your hands free. Your paddle is your prop. Leave the wand at home.
- No glitter, confetti or anything that sheds. It ends up on the court and makes it slippery. Ask your club before bringing face paint or anything messy.
- Dress in layers. Costumes are hot. Wear athletic clothes underneath so you can take the top layer off between games.
For the basics underneath any costume, see what to wear to pickleball.

Pickleball Pun Costumes Only Players Will Get
These are the ones that win the costume contest at a club, because the whole room speaks the language.

Need a slogan for the back of a shirt? Our pickleball puns list has more than a hundred.
Dress as a Pro Player
A pro costume is easy because you probably already own the gear: a tour-style outfit, your paddle and a name on your back.
- Anna Leigh Waters. The most famous name in the sport. She plays a Franklin C45 paddle; read our Anna Leigh Waters profile for the details.
- Ben Johns. One of the most decorated players in the sport, who plays the JOOLA Perseus Pro V. See our Ben Johns profile.
- A famous pro team. Go as a doubles team with a partner, such as Ben Johns and his partner Gabe Tardio, or the mixed team of Anna Bright and Hayden Patriquin.
Add a lanyard “player credential” and an oversized trophy for the full look.

Couples and Partner Costumes
You’ll be on the same side of the net all night, so you might as well match.

Or keep it simple with any classic pair, like peanut butter and jelly or salt and pepper, with your paddles painted to match.
Team and Group Costumes
If your league team, drill group or regular foursome wants to win the team prize, pick a theme that works for four:

Another option: dress as a team from another sport, with bowling shirts, baseball jerseys or 1970s basketball warm-ups.

FAQs
Can you play pickleball in a Halloween costume?
Yes, if you build it for movement. Keep your court shoes, keep your eyes uncovered, and avoid anything that hangs near your feet or sheds onto the court. Wear athletic clothes underneath so you can take the top layer off when you warm up.
What is the easiest pickleball Halloween costume?
The pickleball itself: a neon-yellow shirt with black circles drawn on for the holes. A green shirt with a “Big Dill” sign is a close second. Both take minutes and you can play a full night in them.
What is a good pickleball couples costume?
Pickle and Ball is the classic. If you want something only players will get, go as the Kitchen (a chef) and the Kitchen Violation (a referee).
What should a pickleball team wear for Halloween?
Matching themed shirts are the most playable choice, since everyone can move freely and the theme still reads from across the court. Four ghosts, a sports team from another sport, or “the court” (two baselines, a net and a ball) all work for a foursome.
